We have had a few discussions at work about what to do when your family is at home while you need to work remotely. I wanted to capture a few links and ideas that have come up related to keeping the family engaged when they are out of school. This is a follow up post to https://www.ispeaksoftware.com/remote-work-with-family-members-who-arent-at-work/
One concept that has come up is that many museums offer virtual tours. One of the first posts I saw about it came from my father in law through Facebook. From people.com
And the Travel and Leisure version.
And I ran across another through Bing: https://www.bing.com/search?q=Museums+that+offer+virtual+tours
These posts are gaining popularity, and I’ve seen versions on USA Today even. This is a trend among museums in the last few years to share more of their content to a wider audience, and with so many people staying home it now becomes really useful. I haven’t tried them on the kids yet, but I want to do them and hope I can get them involved. 🙂
Another great idea is one we have been doing for a while. The National Parks service has a Junior Ranger program where each park has a booklet with information about the park. Many (not all) parks allow kids to do them remotely and mail in the booklet, and they send back a badge or other certificate from a ranger. It is fun and educational and the badges are highly collectible. My wife did a great write-up about it – http://mismashedmom.com/2020/03/list-of-junior-ranger-badges-you-can-earn-at-home-updated.html
