Three builds based on Sūn Wùkōng (the Monkey King)

I first learned about Sūn Wùkōng (孙悟空) through Dragonball Z. The character of Goku is loosely based on him, and I even have a t-shirt with Goku and the characters for Sūn Wùkōng in the background. Recently, I’ve found and built 3 versions in 3 different brick systems. One of which is my first set of “LOZ mini” bricks from their Brick Headz line, so I’ll include a review of the differences in bricks as well.

First, a quick group shot.

3 versions of Monkey

On the left is the official LEGO collectible minifigure from series 19, center is the LOZ Brick Headz, and right is Goku from the SY line.

For fun, below is a comparison chart for the different sizes. I’m sure you can look up measurements online that are more standardized, but I measured these with my “digital calliper” (spelling from instruction sheet) and slightly rounded off. One interesting thing to learn is the tolerances which allow grip and removal of parts, but that could be another blog post.

Note that the official nanoblock normal ‘brick’ is as thick as a LEGO plate, and that nanoblocks don’t really have a 1/3rd height plate like LEGO does. The Mega Nano plates are 1/2 height of a brick, and their bricks are more cubic than a LEGO. I say “are”, but I’m fairly certain you cannot find any bricks currently being made in that scale.
